Educational Background

Dr. Cohen received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Latin American studies from St. Olaf College. Um Ya Ya!  During her time at St. Olaf, she studied in Mexico and Cuba, which fostered her love for travel and learning about other cultures.  Whenever the opportunity presents, she is happy to hop on a plane and explore places, meet new people and eat good food.

After her time at St. Olaf, she then obtained her master’s degree and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Minnesota School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University, with an emphasis in Child Psychology and Health Psychology. Her coursework is from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program. Her clinical internship was at Palos Behavioral Health Professionals, in the Chicago area, where she received training in individual psychotherapy, family therapy, and psychological assessment of children, adults and older adults.

Once she completed her schooling, she spent 15 years in Florida. During that time, she worked briefly for a private practice, Silver Psychology, where she learned about forensic psychology, particularly in the area of family law. Shortly thereafter, her entrepreneur heart needed to grow and she followed the opportunity to have her own practice in Fort Myers, FL, where she continues to treat patients, primarily virtually. She mostly works in the family law and psychoeducational evaluations there.

Early Career

Dr. Cohen has been identified as an expert in court regarding family law issues, child development, domestic violence, and alienation. Dr. Cohen has testified hundreds of times in the Florida Court System and is well versed in family law issues with over 10 years of experience. She is a Florida Certified Family Court Mediator. She also works as an expert consultant on cases involving family law, criminal and dependency issues to help prepare the client and attorney for trial.

She hopes that with this experience, she will help her patients heal from the trauma of living in an unhealthy marriage either as a partner or a child, and help them learn how to live in a healthier and happier environment.

Dr. Cohen’s Current Work

In early 2021, Dr. Cohen relocated from Florida to Minnesota to be closer to family.  She has a remote private practice and is licensed in Florida.  However, her primary practice is Edina Psychology.  She is thrilled to “be back” and is getting involved in the Edina/Twin Cities community.  To be honest, her heart has always been in MN.  She loves the diversity of food, how Minnesotans are always challenging themselves to learn and grow, as well as all the beautiful parks where she can enjoy all the seasons.

Everyone asks her why she would move from FL to MN? The answer is winter and snow! She is so excited to teach her Florida native spouse to shovel snow! When Dr. Cohen is not treating patients, she loves to ride her bike, go on walks, take Peloton classes, downhill & cross country ski and try new restaurants with her family.  She has two amazing children, whom she and her spouse work diligently to parent well, albeit not perfectly.  She also has a close group of girl friends, whom she loves to encourage in life! Her family also has a cabin “up north” and she finds lake life to be healing and nourishing. Something about those loons!

Community Involvement

Dr. Cohen has always been active in the community where she lives.  She is a past President of the Association of Family Law Professionals in Fort Myers. She was also secretary for a chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). She is involved in the Florida Bar, Family Law Section. She belongs to the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, including both the MN and FL chapters.

She is currently the Private Practice Chair for Minnesota Psychological Association. She genuinely loves supporting and encouraging her colleagues!

Dr. Cohen also dedicates her time, talent, and treasure to several charities, including Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), Autism Speaks and Habitat for Humanity, to name a few. She currently volunteers with Clare Housing and is honored to serve their amazingly resilient residents who are living with HIV.
